Ande, that song was absolutely beautiful. I don't know how Leonard got to see the singer's picture, Ask and ye shall receive: http://www.halieloren.com -LBJ
  • Ande, that song was absolutely beautiful. I don't know how Leonard got to see the singer's picture, but her voice and the way she phrased the lyrics hit just an exquisite note of hope and melancholy. At least that's how I took it. She certainly sounded gorgeous. If you guys didn't listen to Ande's song, go back and click on the link. The song just starts playing. You will enjoy the next three minutes of your life immensely! Really impressive. There are all kinds of Christmas songs, a couple Chanuka numbers, a handful of Easter and Fourth of July standards. Other than the great Robert Burn's poem, "Auld Lang Syne", set to music, I can't think of a single other New Years song. Well, maybe that Prince one about partying like it's 1999. Anyhow, thanks for sharing the second (if not yet universally recognized) New Years classic with us. How does a song of this sort, which calls to mind the standards of the great American song book--Frank Sinatra style songs, for instance--become a hit today? Do you need someone famous, like Nora Jones or Harry Connick Jr., to do it to get rich? Whatever it takes, good luck! My New Year's Resolution is to try to make my freestyle a fraction as elegant and smooth as Ande's song.
  • I will only say that Rom Karnaugh is not a name I want to see on the record books, if I have anything to do with it. Ron and I were members of the 1991 Pan American team. And yes, Josh has done his part, and I'm eternally grateful to him for that. Thanks for the info. Standard swimmer pranks, combined with definite age advantage and possible size advantage on his part... maybe he gave you a swirly. Maybe worse than that. Go forth and take down his records! I'd help, I'm even in the right age group, but I'm just way too slow.
  • Swim more. Just totaled up my swim log. Ugh. Only 174 miles in 2008. 2009's goal? 365 miles
  • I will only say that Rom Karnaugh is not a name I want to see on the record books, if I have anything to do with it. Ron and I were members of the 1991 Pan American team. And yes, Josh has done his part, and I'm eternally grateful to him for that.QUOTE] Obviously you know RK much better than I (which is not at all). However, after watching him preen and strut around the pool at 2003 nationals in Tempe I can empathize with your goal.
  • I want to hear the story behind this gridge! Was he your coach when you were younger? Forced you to do the 200 fly with two pull buoys between your legs? Am I even remotely on the right track? I will only say that Rom Karnaugh is not a name I want to see on the record books, if I have anything to do with it. Ron and I were members of the 1991 Pan American team. And yes, Josh has done his part, and I'm eternally grateful to him for that.
  • Ande - Great song, great lyrics, great singer, nice piano touch... do you do your own arranging? for 2009... 1. Try to increase pooltime by at least another practice a week. 2. Try to figure out the breastroke kick, so I can swim it better. 3. Try to enjoy any meets I happen to get to.

My swimming Resolutions for 2009: 1) Qualify for LCM Nats in 50 ***--almost there and I've made quite an improvement in the past few months 2) Swim my first 10K in August (unfortunately it's only a few weeks before LCM Nats--so I'll be doing a lot of *** and long free sets) 3) Get my lazy butt out of bed on Saturday mornings and make it to practice That's enough for now. Don't want to pressure myself too much.
  • I "Paul Smith" hereby rescind the following New years resolutions made under duress last night and in the midst alcohol and fatty foods ingested in exces thereby rendering said resolutions as unenforceable: 1) I will not swim a 400IM in 2009 2) I will not buy my wife a black Porche 911 and diamond jewelry 3) I will not be nice to the dog, in-laws or other relatives 4) I will not complete and entire workout as written by any coach including myself 5) I will not stop throwing "hand-grenades" on the USMS forums and FB 6) I will not give up chinease buffets 7) I will not obey posted speed limits while driving on freeways thru Montana, Wyoming & Idaho 8) I will not close screens for USMS forums & FB while working nor will I stop IM'ing Geek & John Smith with hot gossipduring conferance calls 9) I will not stop shopping at Costco at noon when free samples are available 10) I will not stop losing an occasional race to John Smith so his fragile ego stays in tact I WILL however be 50 years old :cane: and continue to live my life and think/act like I'm in my 20's!!
  • 2008 was a low point of my life. It started innocently enough with a few compliments hurled (S)he-Puff's way after seeing her swim in January, 2008. From that it morphed into an outright love-fest the rest of the year, culminating in my diarrhea outpouring of emotions for Fort, TJ, Hulk, and Wookie on Geek 9:27. Along the way I also agreed with the Smiths a few times and turned the other geek cheek to their anti-tri sentiments. And, then I was convinced to join the Facebook by a California agitator, where I have been seduced by photos of cute kids and a few puppies. Therefore, for 2009, I'm returning to my old ways. I'm gonna swim a lot also so that I never have to relive the agony of a man beat-down by an unnamed fast woman swimmer.
