What will be voted on next week at convention?

I'm curious if anyone who is not involved with USMS or their LMSC knows what rules are being proposed (aside from the no nationals outside US we've already discussed)? Personally I'd love to see more attempts by USMS to post polls on this forum that summarize the proposals and for the LMSC's to try and "poll" their own constituents as to how they would like for them to vote on the proposals. With the convention starting next week I really haven't dug to deeply into it and have not heard anything from the members of our LMSC as to what they will vote for/against...granted I could ask but in general I think most of us would like to have th info filtered down and sent out/posted.
  • I just got my packet on Friday and read it over real quick. On the flight to Atlanta, I will read everything through a time or two just to make sure I understand everything. Of course, all this could change in committee and in the House of Delegates.
  • i have participated in several events this year that were cancelled midway...Dave, I ran 2 open water events and helped with the swim portion of 3 triathlons, none of which needed to be canceled midway through the race. Maybe it’s you?!?:bolt:
  • i agree, and believe that it should always be a separate div. regardless of the h2o temp, but this does add burden to the event directors. i have participated in several events this year that were cancelled midway due to the enthusiastic participation of many swimmers who were unable to handle the currents. the inclusion of wet-suits certainly added significantly to the number of registrants. How much of a burden does it add? Aren't competitors required to have thier number written somewhere visible on thier arms/torsos? Well then wetsuit competitors start with a W and non-wetsuit start with a N.

I believe he is probably talking more about the burden of many more participants, some of whom may be weaker swimmers (ie, safety issues). It is a valid point which is why it should always be left up to the event director. Personally, most of the USMS OW swims I've participated in (including national championships) have been pitifully undersubscribed, so it would be a nice problem to have. Or we could throw a lot of resources into the 25K national championship. That will certainly grow the base, perhaps we'll even get 5-6 dozen individuals competing next year.

Sorry, I could not find a sarcasm emoticon. Allowing wetsuit swimmers (as a separate division, of course) is good business, if we can get it. Issuing forth a blanket statement that one does not want to allow wetsuits at all just does not make any sense. I agree but only if we have a special awards ceremony for swimmers that finish ahead of wetsuit wearers, where they can point at the rubber duckies and laugh...
