I'm curious if anyone who is not involved with USMS or their LMSC knows what rules are being proposed (aside from the no nationals outside US we've already discussed)?
Personally I'd love to see more attempts by USMS to post polls on this forum that summarize the proposals and for the LMSC's to try and "poll" their own constituents as to how they would like for them to vote on the proposals.
With the convention starting next week I really haven't dug to deeply into it and have not heard anything from the members of our LMSC as to what they will vote for/against...granted I could ask but in general I think most of us would like to have th info filtered down and sent out/posted.
How much of a burden does it add? Aren't competitors required to have thier number written somewhere visible on thier arms/torsos? Well then wetsuit competitors start with a W and non-wetsuit start with a N.
I believe he is probably talking more about the burden of many more participants, some of whom may be weaker swimmers (ie, safety issues).
It is a valid point which is why it should always be left up to the event director. Personally, most of the USMS OW swims I've participated in (including national championships) have been pitifully undersubscribed, so it would be a nice problem to have.
Or we could throw a lot of resources into the 25K national championship. That will certainly grow the base, perhaps we'll even get 5-6 dozen individuals competing next year.
