One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
I hear you EK. But, noodlers demanding all the lane space and/or hot water when you live in a retirement community can't be that much of a surprise. That's like going to a liquor store and being upset that they sell liquor. And, it is really irrelevant how close other pools are when you knew that going in.
It's not that I don't sympathize with your situation. I just have enough experience with this to know when it's time to cut bait and move on.
Or if the dispute is over a specific 2 hour time period, find a different time to train. My pool is crowded in the morning with noodlers and older lap swimmers. I have much better luck in the early afternoon.
Good luck on your fight EK.
I believe we should all be in favour of letting the noodlers set the rules. Bar all lane swimming in pools for those wanting a free ride. The swimmers don't want to pay for their coaching. They should have to belong to a masters group and swim only when their teams have their scheduled work outs:thewave::thewave:
This would be great if it didn't take into consideration people who either can't afford to spend the higher price to swim with Masters (we have ONE local group that is $45/mo.. it's more than swimming at local pools on your own), or who have a schedule conflict and can't make practices. And there are LOTS of places that have no Masters' group at all.
I like the way our local public pool has handled pool sharing. We have an L-shaped pool and with they do deep water aerobics, we swim east-west and when they have shallow water aerobics, we swim north-south. The one big pet peeve for me to swimming there is that there are no lane ropes (aside from the one separating aerobics classes from lap swimmers) and the water gets quite choppy with the aerobics and lap swimming going on at the same time.
What's funny to me is I used to swim there quite a bit and wasn't bothered by it - then I joined Masters for a while and while my only local Masters group leaves A LOT to be desired, when I went back to the public pool I realized how much better a swimming environment it was.
Be nice to the Noodlers and the Bleach bottle exercisors. They are the only reason most pools are open. They pay and to keep the pools open so YOU ungrateful people have a place to practice.
The pool I am referring to is at a golf club.It is filled with little kids in the afternoon and this is it's prime function. My complaint is that there is a lane in the pool ,which would be inconvenient for them to use, that will go unused so they don't get there hair wet.
It is a bit of a moot point for me as it is very uncomfortable to swim when they are in the pool anyway. That is not primarily due to their rude and entitled manner(although that is an issue) nor from them making waves(they aren't active enough for that to be an issue) but from their intolerable perfume. What is up with that,it is literally hard to breath due to the smell.Clearly they are not taking a "cleansing shower" as required by state law.

Well, Geek, I haven't had the experience you have had with swimming/ pools/ noodlers. Until I joined USMS, in February 2010, I hadn't been involved in swimming, since high school, back in 1979. Since then, I had only splashed around in private pools or resorts, etc., until I moved to Sun City and got back into swimming. So, call me ignorant (or whatever), but I honestly thought these women would be fair-minde, like most reasonable people. Little did I know I would be opening up an ugly :worms:. :afraid:.
So I am supposed to shampoo my hair before and after workout? I put my cap on dry hair too - 99% of the people I swim with do the same. I think we could make the arguement that people must shower before getting in the pool, but shampooing the hair probably won't fly. (Especially since the noodler's goal is to keep the hair dry.)
For the majority of swimmers I'd say-No...but if you have a habbit of using tons of hairproducts-hairspray,mousse,jel or pomade-YES!It's no different then washing off perfume or deodorant.Once it is mixing in with the chlorinated pool water it just becomes a toxic mess.
Sometimes the noodlers re-act to being run over too agressively. I have 3 friends who are noodlers and they always give swimmers the right of passage.
Uhhh, George, I think (no, actually I know ) you have this backwards. The fact is, I have been on the defensive, because it is the noodlers who have been running over me too aggressively. And, for that matter, it has been only a few of the bullies. The rest of the noodlers are actually on my side, as well as the other swimmers.
I am happy to hear you have three friends who are actually polite and reasonable noodlers. At our pool, most of the noodlers are just like your friends. Unfortunately, however, the bullies have been so aggressive and outspoken, they are attempting to ruin it for the rest of us.
Never have I been aggressive at our pool; I have only defended myself by asserting my rights as an equal HOA dues- paying resident.
They move aside and stay on the other side of the pool. They are so good at getting out of my way when I do lengths I bought them all packages of Mr Noodles for Christmas. Maybe this is why they are so cooperative.
ElaineK buy them gifts!!! Mr Noodles are on sale .50 cents each this week at The Real Canadian Super Store.
Our HOA stocked up on noodles, balls, and kickboards when the facility opened, so they have all the toys they could possibly need or want.
I have been nothing BUT nice to these ladies from the day the pool opened. Most of the ladies responded positively and I have made some nice friends, because of taking the initiative to introduce myself and be kind. In other words, I live by the Golden Rule. But, bullies believe it's all about them and rules are made to be broken.
At this point, once the board ever gets off their :censor: and makes a decision, I will abide by it and move on. I made a very solid presentation to the committee (at least, that is what I was told by the other nine swimmers who came to support me) and did so in a very diplomatic way. I believe they were convinced and made a recommendation to the board in favor of us swimmers. Now, we wait. :waiting:
Rite of passage or right of way?
Right of passage sounds like your friends thwack swimmers with noodles as we swim by.:toohurt:
LOL!!! I'm sure getting smacked with a noodle would make me swim faster. I should suggest this to our coach.
