One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
I can understand the usefulness of water aerobics for that purpose, but what the heck is the noodle for? i've even seen them paddling around on them.
Hi Bob!
The noodle is a colorful prop that add interest and excitement to the class; sort-of like the flag twirlers in a band.
On a more serious note I'd say they use the noodle for resistance training (pushing it away and pulling it back in). Also I suspect many noodlers's are not
confident swimmers and like the idea of a flotation device handy to their reach in case they couldn't make it to the wall. I'm not saying this to be a smart-alec, I have seen behavior pointing toward this.
E.S.P. Noodle Workout DVD
The "E" is for endurance, the "S" is for Strength and the "P" is for Power. This fast moving interval/circuit workout includes great choreography for the endurance segments, muscle defining exercises in the strength segments, and forceful, energetic moves for the power sections. The class format includes cycles of 3 minute moderate intensity cardiovascular routines, followed by 1 minute of strength training and then 40 seconds of high intensity powerful movements. A great workout with innovative, effective new ways to use the noodle.

I used a noodle workout dvd one summer in Freshman Summer School PE.
I thought it was pretty hokey but it's hard to find activities appropriate for good swimmers, poor swimmers, and non-swimmers to do all together. As I recall I had the non-confident swimmers use aqua jogger vests; we did the workout in the deep end. Most of the kids seemed to like it but I doubt it was something most of them would be likely to repeat.
I bet the Noodlers are all at home knitting a sweater right now to keep themselves warm instead of watching the Superbowl!!! GO PACKERS!!!

What's wrong with knitting a sweater, watching the SB, and facebook/usms'ing all at the same time? Welcome to the land of ADD!

Hey - I was just about to do that, don't lump me in with the noodlers!!
And superbowl is a dirty word in our house - those electricity-thieving, sand-hogging, priority-flight-landing :censor:
Yesterday I saw a noodler exercise class that had five guys in the group. I asked these guys after they were in the hot tub, how come you all have dry hair. One guy said I don't want to get water in my ears. The others had no explanation they just smiled.
