One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
I want to start by admitting that I am a terrible person. I try to be a good person, but I'm coping with murderous rage. I have just lost the battle to the noodlers. My heart really started in the right place. I thought, isn't it great that these older ladies, who may have never had the chance to learn to swim, are doing what they can to be healthier. I thought, sure, they don't want to get their hair wet, but they're like my grandma who had her hair helmet glued in place every week by her beauty operator, and it had to last a week. Those thoughts were when the pool was 83 degrees. It has crept up to 85, sometimes 86, and when I asked what was going on, got "90% of the people like it this temperature. You and your husband are the only ones who have said it is too warm."
So today I'm swimming, thinking of all the things it would really be wise not to say. I hope I have the self control. Like, "Oh, I've found the silver lining. When I train in a hostile environment, when I get to a decent pool it is so much more fun and I'm so much faster," Or, "Noodlers just never realize it isn't healthy to swim in bath water until one of the old biddies drops dead." That's almost a curse, isnt' it? I know thoughts have consequences, so I am taking it back, right now, just wishing everyone peace and love, peace and love. And back to my hostile environment tomorrow.
Thanks for being there for me.
Good luck Carol!!
I quit LA Fitness due to the same problems. The noodler classes were so popular there and I knew it was a battle unworthy of fighting so I found a different pool for my extra solo practices. I am much happier and anyone I talk to who is looking for a pool to noodle in I advise to LA Fitness. They should pay me some type of noodler finder's fee!!!!! lol!
You're not a terrible person. You haven't poisoned the water yet.
Further more - I think you and Elaine will get along great. You have essentially the same story.
Hey, I was just going to say the same thing! Our pool is holding steady at 86 degrees, even though they finally agreed to keep it to 85 in the winter ( :bitching: ) and 82 in the summer. When I complained (again...), they said the thermostat is set to 85. But, the fact is, the water temp. has been at 86 degrees for the last few weeks. So, I suggested they turn the thermostat down, so we could get the water temp. back down to where it is supposed to be. No response to that e-mail yet...
Anyway, if you read my earlier posts, you will see that we DO have the same story. You have my sympathy!:bighug:
I am not able to kill the thread it is just me wishing it gone. The noodlers are what keeps most pools open.
Open at 85 degrees is I suppose marginally better than closed, but 80-83 is much better.

Geochuck, please don't kill the thread, I just found it! Knowing there are others who have thought their way through this issue is really helping my sense of perspective.
Re Death to all Noodlers thread.
Is it not time for this whole thread to die.
As long as there are serious lap swimmers and noodlers sharing the same pool, the thread will go on.....
