Death to all Noodlers!

One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
  • I hear they are good, slow roasted over an open fire. Much like the chestnuts of from songs of old. (Not old chestnuts though - those are gross..) however -- they tend to be a little fatty, so I would only eat one or two.
  • One question....since when does sitting on your kickboard and paddling with your hands equate exercise? It's probably good work! It's pretty difficult to balance your butt atop a kickboard.

  • At the club where I swim they from time to time, post comments and questions from the suggestion box along with answers. This week there was a complaint that "It isnt fair" that the pool cant be kept at 84 degrees because (I hate this line) "there are a lot more water aerobic members than swimmers" .... only problem is for the last three weeks the pool temp has been in the high 83 degree range (temp is posted for both lap pool and therapy pool) and the day I read the note it was 83.7...just goes to show some people will complain about anything. In the mean time I get hot and sweaty without swimming a stroke. ugh! Out of curiosity, which is bothering you: -- that people prefer water at 84 degrees? -- that these people are perhaps more numerous than "serious" swimmers, and you disagree with a "majority rules" sentiment? -- that people who prefer 84 degree water weren't happy when it was "only" 83 degrees? These are honest questions on my part, I'm not trying to start an argument; any of these questions might be the basis of a legitimate gripe. I recently quit a club over this issue (too much warm water) and their basic attitude was that more people prefer it at 84 degrees than prefer it at 81 degrees. I hate the warm water and they lost my business...but (despite my strong feelings to the contrary) they may also have a point. And they have every incentive to get it right, too, if they want to be as profitable as possible.

Fair questions dont mind answering. the answer is #3. I have owned my own business for 21 years, and understand completely the need to make a profit, especially when you consider that if my club does close, I am back to 45 minutes commute to the next nearest pool (outside of the one, one hour open swim at local high school each week)... I get it, which is exactly why I dont complain....too much......to the club about the water temp. I just think it is crazy to complain that the pool is 2 tenths of a degree less that what they think it should be....enough complaining that you put a letter in the suggestion box.... also realize one thing, they have a therapy pool right next to the lap pool where the water is kept around 90 degrees, that pool is available to anyone, and while not 25 yards long, certainly large enough that 30 people could exercise comfortably, in fact some of the rudler noodlers do their class there while the rest of them are in the lap pool.... also I do not disagree with "Majority rules" that is the way it should be, and that is why it is currently at 83 degrees instead of the 78 degrees members of the swim group would like it at....wondering if it were kept at 84 how long it would take before they complained that it isnt 86 ...just saying...talking profit I dont know the precentages, but understand that the higher the temp of the water the more chemicals used, add that to the cost of heating the water that extra couple of degrees=less profit for the club as well....thanks for your interest.....Elaine....I think I am beginning to remember why I quit posting on these forums so much......

And they have every incentive to get it right, too, if they want to be as profitable as possible. I must admit, the water temp affected my choice of club membership. I went with the no-frills, but proper competition pool and separate leisure pool option, over the 5 lane lap pool, fancy gym, childcare included, aerobics classes included option. So although I don't swim as often as I could if I had on-tap childcare, when I do go, I have a 78F pool with good laneropes and occasionally a choice of all 10 lanes! The noodlers get to use the warmer leisure pool. I feel the frustration though - I don't like proper swimming in warm water, but I also don't like taking my 3 year old in water under 82F, and one pool really cannot cater for all :(

I haven't seen you on the forums for a long time. :welcome: back!

  • Huh. I recently saw a water aerobics person in the next lane walking - springing - backward at a good clip after finishing a regular swimming workout. She was definitely generating body heat.
  • Those thoughts were when the pool was 83 degrees. It has crept up to 85, sometimes 86, and when I asked what was going on, got "90% of the people like it this temperature. You and your husband are the only ones who have said it is too warm." You're not a terrible person. You haven't poisoned the water yet. Further more - I think you and Elaine will get along great. You have essentially the same story.
