Does anyone know of any teams (kids or masters) that I can practice with while I'm in Montreal for the ADAPT conference for a few days? :canada::canada::canada: Thanks! Until someone from Montreal replies (and you should received quite a few), why don't you plan on visiting Ottawa (it's only less than two hours away by car) and I'll show you some places to swim in Ottawa? If you take this offer seriously (and I am serious) tell me a day and I'll give you the hours that our City pools are open for Adult Lane Swimming and you can plan your side trip accordingly. In the meantime here is a listing of Montreal pools. It's not the best, but .............. www.swimmersguide.com/.../Search2.cfm When in Canada, :canada:don't miss out on local beers :drink: Cheers

Ahmed, Thank you so much for the kind offer! I think that as we'll be there only 4 days that I'll be at the mercy of my husband's schedule (as he's presenting at a conference.) Not sure I'll be able to block off that much time for a swim! (I wish, but I think he would kill me first! lol) Fortunately, one of the gals that I swim with is from Montreal and she's given me a few places to swim that are right in the city. But that's what Conferences are for: The attendee (hubby) attends the speeches, events, round (or triangular) tables, shows, demos, etc., while the spouse goes on a mini-vacation (or shopping). And BTW, you do NOT have to speak French to enjoy Montreal. (George! Don't scare the poor girl beforehand...........)

Before going to Montreal brush up on your French. Montreal is a great place and I am sure you will enjoy yourself. My favourite eatery was to go to Ben's for a corned beef sandwich. Is Ben's still there???
  • Kristina, You could try the Westmount YMCA, about 5 minutes by car from downtown. There are early morning practices Mon/Wed/Fri at 6:30 and 8:15 am (I don't go to these) and evening practices Tues/Thurs/Fri at 7:30pm. There will usually be swimmers there to push you. Paul Smith has attended some of the practices on a trip to Montreal. I am in Australia at the moment until after the ADAPT conference, so unfortunately cannot give you help you more. Ian. What a great town...wish we still worked for that company and were able to visit again! Ian...we can't seem to get away from you Canadians...heading up to Toronto in December if you know of any teams in the area?

...heading up to Toronto in December if you know of any teams in the area? Paul, Toronto is really spread out and the traffic horrendous, so it depends where you are located. The Ontario masters has a good "where to swim page": www.mastersswimmingontario.ca/.../places.htm Select where you will be: Downtown, GTA (Greater Toronto Area) North, West or whatever. North Toronto has a strong club but there are others too (I have not swum with any, so don't know how practices are). Ian.
  • I know there is a 25m pool under the stands of the stadium where the montreal alouettes (or however you spell it) CFL team plays, entrance right on Des Pines Ouest (or avenue pine). Not sure if there is some sort of membership or team or something... but it is a place to swim!
