love swimming but each time i go home after swim, I have runny nose and it is clogged-can't breathee. Tried clear water spray-no help. When i don't swim on Sunday my nose is ok. I suspect i'm alergic to chemicals in pool. Anynone has similar reaction? Do you take any medications? do you have to take everytime you go for a swim? is there a way to get out of this problem? I have sheduled visit to a doctor next week-this issue must me solved, cause i ain't quitting swimming. Thanks for info I swim in Bakersfield CA so temps are no problem water temp. is not very cold either.

...each time i go home after swim, I have runny nose and it is clogged-can't breathee. I have also developed a similar problem. Never had it before but now when I get back from the pool (and it seems to get worse in the evenings) I have these sneezing fits. I can sneeze up to twenty times in a row. It gets so bad that my chest hurts. My nose streams and the more I blow it the worse it gets. It seems to be exacerbated when I swim butterfly. I suspect that this is because it is easier for water to be forced into the sinuses when swimming butterfly. Funny thing is, although this has been going on for a while, I only recently suspected chlorine. I thought it might be the cats, house dust, air pollution, the changing of the seasons, etc. It was only when I hurt my arm three weeks ago and didn't swim for two weeks and didn't sneeze at all, that I started to suspect the pool. The day I went back for my first swim I got really bad congestion and had one of the worst sneezing fits I have ever had. I know there was a thread pertaining to this a while back but I can't seem to find it. Would appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction. In the meantime I googled "chlorine allergy" and came up with some useful links. There doesn't seem to be a lot that can be done about it. I get relief from mentholatum rub applied below the nose. It is usually fine by the next morning. I am hoping that it is something that the body acclimatizes to and gets over ( a bit like people get over eczema ). Check out this link. Here is an excerpt: Many people develop stuffy nose after swimming in a public pool. This is commonly called swimmer's sinusitis is caused by getting water into the sinuses. The best treatment for swimmer's sinusitis is to drink plenty of water to keep the mucus thin and allow the sinusitis to drain properly. Some people find that using a nasal spray after swimming will also relive some of the symptoms. If the problem continues then see a healthcare professional because a persistent sinus infection could lead to a more serious problem. Another treatment for the swimmer's sinusitis is to use Eucalyptus or olbas oil in boiling water and inhale the steam that is being generated. This treatment is also very good for any type of stuffy nose due to a cold, flu or allergy problems. Both readily diffuse into the air and can provide benefits to nasal and bronchial areas.
