The USMS magazine is moderately interesting. Splash (USA Swimming) has a mix of interesting and silly (age group oriented) stuff.
What about Swimming World? I read some of the free online stuff but what about the paid-for magazine? Is it worth $30 a year?
YES,in my opinion it is the best mix of technique stuff and stories.Almost every issue has something worth the price.Since they combined Swimming World,Swim, and Swim Technique into one magazine it has become an even better bargain.
I am always dissapointed that Swimming World does not get placed on magazine stands in Borders, Barnes, etc. Running has at least 2-3, cycling/triathlon has about 4-5, pretty much every other major sport has multiple mags on stands. I would think there are enough swimming fans/participants to get one title placed!
I agree! I wish I could buy one every once in a while, too.

Does anyone have premium access (Web site) and know what is available through this feature?
1-yr print magazine alone: $30 p.a.
1-yr print mag plus premium access: $39.95
Thanks,

Swimming World is now 4 mags in one.Swimming World which covers elite swimmers,Swim which covers Masters,Swimming Technique(my favorite generally) which covers technique, and Junior Swimmer that covers age group.Yes it doesn't cover Masters as in depth as Swimmer, but it's technical stuff is much better.

Dan,
Your remark about the USMS mag is far more positive then I could come up with. I generally read far more of Swimming World that the USMS magazine. I generally read little to none of the USMS magazine. I pay th eextra money to ge tthe TV show on my laptop and extra stories.

The current issue is especially good.I really like this quote from"Training the Nervous System" by Dr Daniel Carl:"Training at race paces with perfect technique supplements the desired motor patterns-and I would advocate that if proper swim technique cannot be maintained ,then serious consideration should be given to stopping the task altogether until recovery is sufficient and proper technique can again be maintained."
