Yes, I've tried about everything out there including H20, Otterbox, Finis, you name it. The only player and headset that I have found that really works, isn't bulky, and sounds and feels great in the ears is the Swimman waterproofed iPod Shuffle and Headset. All other headsets either don't stay in your ears, feel terrible and produce tinny sound or produce wavering and very distracting sound. Every time your ear comes out of the water with the Finis, the music volume drops. With every breath you take the volume changes so much that it drives you crazy. As for the player itself, there is nothing smaller, easier to wear or easier to work than the Swimman iPod Shuffle. When I use it for my workouts, I hardly know that I'm wearing it. There is no drag, or stuff flopping around like when I use the bulky plastic cases such as those made by H20 and Otterbox. Using the Swimman is just pure music and swimming bliss.

Tri I HAVE to wear ear plugs when I swim,..do the swimman earbuds keep water out? How long is the cable between the ipod and the headsets? Thanks Ron

Ron, Yes. The Swimman earbuds keep the water out. I think that they even have two sizes of earbuds, but I have only needed to use the regular sized ones. I usually don't like to wear anything in my ears as my ear canals can become sore, but Swimman's earbuds are really comfortable so I haven't had any problems with them as I have with other headsets.
  • Yeah, I tried that H20 case with waterproof headphones and HATED it. It was way too big and the earphones kept coming out of my ears too. I think I'm going to try the SWIMMAN..(birthday is coming up!!) THANKS for all of your reviews! Keep them coming!!:wiggle:

Ron, I've just measured my Swimman headset cable length and it come out at about 4 feet. The cable is staight and not coiled as are some of the other headsets. This seems to work a lot better as I have found that the coiled cables tend to increase water drag and this tends to pull on the headeset. Coiled cables also seem to flop around a lot and this interfers with my workout. I usually wear my Swimman iPod on my suit by clipping it onto the left side of my waistband using the iPod's built in clip. The cable then goes up the center of my back and the cable branches at about my neck to go to the right and left audio transducers. The headset clips nicely onto my goggle headband and the earbuds are easily placed in the ears. Because the transducers are clipped onto the goggle strap, there is no cable tugging on the earbuds due to water drag on the cable as there is in other types of headsets. This seems to allow the earbuds to stay in the ears even when I do my kick-turns. Any excess cable left over, I just tuck into my suit from my left side right next to the iPod Shuffle to about the center of my back. In that way, the cable never interferes with any of the strokes that I'm doing. BTW, I have seen other people clip the Swimman iPod onto the back of their goggle strap and then coil up the headset cable and clip it to the goggle strap right next to the Swimman iPod. I hope that this helps you out a bit.

Tri Is the length of the cable that goes from the ipod to the earbuds a hassel? Does it tuck away neatly?

  • OK ALL! I'm back with my review of the IPOD SWIMMAN! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana:This thing rocks. The first time I tried it, I had the larger earbuds on it. They didn't stay in my ears. The second time I used it, I put the smaller earbuds along with some neosporin (as recommended by the company) on the buds and omg they didn't budge! Music sounded pretty good too. Sometimes on flip turns it kinda gets softer but as soon as you start swimming the sound is amazing again. As all gadgets, it's somewhat of a comptraption. You have to hook the earphones on your goggle strap. I put it on the goggles first, then put the goggles on my head and my swimcap OVER the goggles for extra security! I'm very pleased with this and makes swimming so much more fun! Nothing beats swimming to Nine Inch Nails..hehe(I know..bad music to some of you all..it's very energetic to me though..) Now...stop reading this and go buy one!!!!!

I used H20 Audio for about a year and loved it and then one day when I was about 500 yards into my workout it leaked and ruined my iPod, so be careful with it.
