  • Katie Hoff ... will be ... coaching at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD....where I will be attending....sweet niblets. What does corn have to do with swimming? Is that Katie's secret? Is she juiced on maize? Skip
  • If you are a man and want to go to the olympics, move to Austin and train with Longhorn Aquatics. 8/22 men came from there. Hansen, Berens, Piersol, Spann, Weber-Gale, Shanteau, Crocker, Walters. CW has three men; Trojan and MAC each with two. Women had a bunch of clubs two swimmers: Cal (Caughlin, Silver), Trojan (Hardy, Soni), Stanford (Smit, Breeden), King (Hoelzer, Jendrick), Bruin (Beard, Vandenberg); but none with more. Trojan is the only one with more than 1 for both genders (M:Jensen, Keller; W:Hardy, Soni)
  • Do you really think club selection is that critical between CW, TXLAST, USC, and MAC? Matt, Perhaps critical isn't the right word to use. TXLA with 8/22 had 36.4% of the mens team. The four teams with 2+ qualifiers had 15 swimmers, 68% of the team. It is a matter of numbers and stats. 11 clubs qualified one male swimmer for the Olympics. That doesn't tell me that it is CRITICAL to swim for TXLA if you want to go to the olympics. However, the fact that TXLA has 8 swimmers going tells me there is a high CORRELATION with that program and Olympic berths.
  • Side note...if Dara drops out of the 100 free, does that mean everyone moves up a spot? Then Kara Lynn would still be on the team and if Silver is off the team, would Amanda Weir be added to make up the 6 spots? My impression, based on her interview, was that DT was still planning on swimming the relay, just not the individual. So it would still be just the top 6 needed.

I think Hansen faded in the 200 BR because he had Kitajima on his mind.He went out fast, maybe trying to get his WR back and couldn't hold it.I think if he just swam to win he would have. Also NBC did there usual lousy job.Poor technical explanations, not interviewing Spann. Some times they even circled the wrong swimmer with their graphics etc. You forgot the fact that Rowdy Gains was falling all over himself to talk about Michael Phelps, whether it was pertinent to the situation or not. I was bummed KLJ didn't make the team, and that Vendt didn't make any individuals. Other than that Beisel seems like a fresh young face, which is probably good.

Emily Silver broke her hand on the finish of the 50 prelims(I think). They don't know if it will require surgery or not but if she is removed from the team, Kara Lynn will be on it in her place. • At first I was annoyed i'd have to fast forward through all those track & field events (plus commercials), but now i'm glad I was forced to watch our country's finest make their way to Bejing! Suddenly, you watch some of these events (and learn what they are), then you really care who makes it! The bonus of the night: best dive award goes to that girl in the 200 (running) that totally stumbled and DOVE across the finish line to earn that 3rd place/Olympic spot - it was amazing!!! I'm going to watch more track and field from now on!!! If you missed it, I think it was before the swim events. Correct me if i'm wrong. Were there any Outside Smokers (actual lane 1 or 8) in swimming make the team this year? I enjoyed the track and field competitors as well as the swimming. Majorly impressed with the speed of the 1500 meters, and the men's race in that was very interesting. I guess shoving is legal.

It is interesting that TXLA has no female qualifiers. Hayley just missed. The interesting thing to recognize is that all the TXLA males are coached by Eddie Reese - the UT coach. I believe all of the TXLA females are coached by Randy Reese. I'm not making a statement - just an observation. TXLA had many women at the trials - they just didn't make the team. They are generally younger girls.

I am inclined to believe that if those TXLA athletes trained at the MAC or for CW, they would have fared very similarly in these trials. But perhaps you are correct, TXLA is just a better program.
