Erik Vendt? 21 seconds off his best time...at least he's got the relay.

He'd have gone with his prelim time, it was faster than Jensen's today.

**** NBC for this bullshit they're pulling during the 1500. God forbid they actually show the whole race -- and not just one commercial during the race, but two?!? :rant3: Not only that; they discovered how to subject swim fans to two hours of commercials and track and field fans to two hours of commercials. My TV guide said "US Swimming Trials on NBC at 8pm -1 hour", so that's what I programmed myself and my VCR for. Guess what? They intermingle Track and Field with Swimming and I end up watching a women's 50m free and parts of the 1500 and that's it. I'm fuming at the lack of respect NBC (and other channels) show towards their audiences.

I guess Vendt might have put too much effort into prelims yesterday... I'm stunned that he didn't make it.

Poor Vendt. Oh well, he can just swim the preliminary relay of the 4 x 200 and have some fun in Beijing. He has done really well at these Trials. Maybe the 1500 is just too long of a race for him. He might be better suited for the 800. Of course, the guys don't swim the 800 at the Games. Go Vanderkaay. He better not scratch the 1500. He could be the one to take down Hackett. I can hope, can't I. Are you aware that his best time is a 14:46? He was way off it.

wow, Beard might pull it off in the 200 ***. If she makes it in the 200 breats, she can spend all the time she wants at the Playboy mansion in that Grotto. Wasn't Cullen Jones supposed to be a lock in the 50 and the 100 free? I hope that Nike and I think Toyota didn't spend alot of money endorsing him. I don't think that they are getting their money's worth sponsoring a guy who is going to the Olympics in a relay. Gary Hall was kind of douchy tonight!! I hope these were the quotes that George referred to. These are classless and have no place if they were meant to be funny, I guess humor is in the eye of the beholder. I really don't know what "kind of douchy" really means. I would like to see Mr. (and I use that term lightly) tjrpatt do better.

Yes these were the things I was talking about and another that referred to coach/swimmer relationship. Kurt not a reference to your comment. Gary I am sure will be fine he handles set backs with ease I did not like the douchy thing though.

Are you aware that his best time is a 14:46? He was way off it. It can happen to anyone. In 1956 George Breen set the world record 17:52.9 for 1500m in the heets of the 1500 at the Olympics in Melbourne. Lost the event to Murray Rose in 17:58.9 the finals he swam much slower and got the bronze in 18:08.2.

I don't think it is. :drown: I'm so thrilled he's on the relay though.

I found Hall Jr.'s "Godfather of Swimming" cape to be slightly ridiculous. However, I also found myself trying to defend him a little bit to the members of my extended family crowded around my television. They thought he looked like a fool. They were also embarrassed that he seemed to typify the stereotypical obnoxious American. I think they were glad he didn't make the team. I've enjoyed Hall's poolside shtick in the past, but for some reason, it looked kind of silly last night. He'll be back in some shape or form down the road.
