It can happen to anyone. In 1956 George Breen set the world record 17:52.9 for 1500m in the heets of the 1500 at the Olympics in Melbourne. Lost the event to Murray Rose in 17:58.9 the finals he swam much slower and got the bronze in 18:08.2.
I was referring to whoever said the 1500 was too long for him. I don't think it is. :drown: I'm so thrilled he's on the relay though.
