Natalie busting her own WR was the highlight of the evening for me. She's a truly awesome athlete. Club Wolverine putting 3 swimmers on the 4 x 200 is also quite impressive. Going 1,2 in the 200 Free final is even better. Phelps and Tarwater (Club Wolverine strikes again) really dominated that 200 fly semifinal. And of course, kudos to Megan for getting on the team. That's wonderful...and the smiles and emotions shown by her and Nathan tell that tale very vividly. Congrats. Peirsol really made it happen tonight. That was a great swim, although in the first 50, it looked like Bal was going to make Peirsol's night a little difficult.

***TRAMPOLINE UPDATE*** I had to skip all of your comments on tonight's swims because I just got home and haven't watched it yet. I can announce, however, that the members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trampoline Team are Chris Estrada (men) and Erin Blanchard (women). They are both members of the Olympic Training Center trampoline team in Colorado Springs. The competition was a lot of fun to watch. I had no idea of what to expect. It's sort of like doing 10 difficult dives in a row. Imagine Greg Louganis doing 10 dives in a row with only a jump in between each one. Very impressive.

I loved Breeden's reaction when she realized she made the team. I agree - it's nice to see a lot of emotion coming from someone who made the team for the first time. Komisarz was not happy.

What does Schmitt have in store for the 200 (her better event)? Can't wait to see her compete in the SEC next year.

It was a legitimate question, though, and there was no reason for him to be such an a-hole answering it. Precisely. Hard to cheer for somebody like that.

I don't like the way it was broadcast tonight. At 8pm USA only showed the 2nd semi final with Phelps but not the first. Also way too much time with commercials. And don't get me started on the nbcolympics webcast! It is exactly the same as the TV broadcast -commercials included, but with a slight delay. Though I feel like I should be grateful that swimming is on TV at all, considering how little is usually shown.:( I thought there would be more "bonus" coverage on NBC online... but I haven't seen anything... like the awards ceremonies for all events, some behind the scenes interviews - or even a short interview of the 2nd place swimmer! The women's 100 back semi's didn't make tonight's show (on TV). Was really disappointed. I did finally find some interviews on floswimming, though!
  • 2 American's break :48 in the 100. Garrett Weber-Gale set american record! Phelps also breaks :48 Is Phelps going to swim this tonight? I mean he swam a final in the 200 Free and then did the SF 200 Fly in 1:54.02 so I think this double might be a bit easier. Granted there is risk because there is a final after a semi and not the other way around like yesterday but he could really challenge for a 100 Free American and maybe World Record tonight along with others. The opportunity is there and I believe he will take the risk and go for it unless he feels he could get beat by two guys like Tarwater and Stoval or somebody else. Remember he is not doing Relays here so he will be swimming less than what he will be doing in Beijing.
  • Maybe NBC/USA will actually show both semi-finals tonight of the 100 free. I believe they have a 7:45 start EST so when they sign on they will go right to the Women's 200 Free Final. I believe they want to show all of the Finals so out of the box they have that event and the Men's 200 Fly Final. Then they have two SF events with the Women's 200 Fly and the Men's 200 ***. Then they want to show the Women's 200 IM Final before they sign off. This worked two days ago because they did show the Women's 400 Free Final, which was the last event and they did not show the Women's 100 Back SF and one heat of the Men's 200 Free SF to get that 400 Free Final in. I think you will see the same thing tonight with taped highlights of the Men's 100 Semi Final.
  • phelps scratched the 100 free, saving up for the 200 fly and allowing berens to slip in and possibly one more person to earn an olympic berth katie hoff has a tough double tonight 200 fr / 200 IM good thing there's 3 events between them
  • Does anyone know who won the women's swimoff in the 200im? Knutson is listed in the start list for finals, however I'm not sure they contested the swim-off. It's possible Beisel conceded the spot.
