This case for me brings into sharp focus the lack of a transition for Olympians who complete their swim, skate, ski to great acclaim, achieving dazzling star status, and leave the arena of elite competition for normal living. He worked selling radio ads, selling cars, and finally back to being a barn hand. Sunday you are above the fold, Monday nobody knows your name. And you are unemployed. Some tiny number turn it around to become a surgeon, semi-survive in Hollywood, or skate with Disney, but for a much larger number, the next rung down the professional ladder is teaching at a local park district.

It's got to be one of the most difficult status changes known to humans. Wonder (idle thoughts over morning coffee emerging now) if something like the VFW, Veterans of Olympic Games, would be useful.
