Im in lifeguard tryouts and I need to be able to swim 3/10 mile in 11 minutes which i did today in exactly 11 minutes but next week i need to be able to swim it in 10 minutes to get the job so i was wanted to know if you guys could tell me any training or swimming tips or if its even possible to progress that much in a week. Your swim is nearly 600 yards. If you average 1.40 you would swim the swim in the 10 minutes. It is hard to learn technique over the internet but first start with the push off from the wall. Be streamlined, arms extended out front, hand over hand, shoulders touching your ears, chin almost touching your chest. Do a few kicks after the body is fully extended like an arrow. Let one arm drop to the catch and push the water til you touch your thigh. For begginner swimmers I encourage a touch about mid thigh. Let the body roll and when it gets to the thigh your hand at the thigh has to come out clean no splashes. When the first arm's hand is near your shoulder start with the other arm. When the first arm gets to the front don't slap the water. Then continue.
Clean swimming is better then big splash swimming.
