my nails in my feet and hands seem to be chipping off, i'm not sure if that is the right term, but they seem to be somewhat kind peeling off...is it the chlorine that's causing this? or is it because i stay too long in the water (2hrs-3hrs)

i have to keep my nails super short, because as soon as I have any sort of nail growing, they peel and crack and get really brittle and gross.
Now that im not swimming in pools (chlorine) for the next few months (mandatory rest period as per doctors orders) my nails seem much happier!
