And we're hearing about it more these days because (hopefully) we've realized these matters shouldn't just be handled privately. It used to be these pervs probably were quietly "let go" from their current positions and they just moved on to another coaching position where, odds are, they did the same thing again.
I'd like to think this kind of thing is relatively uncommon, but the reality is that it's not. I bet most of us who have been involved in swimming most of our lives can think of at least one coach who had, or at least was suspected of, having an inappropriate relationship with a swimmer.
Certainly does not look good for the Upper Arlington coach. However, that being said, remember he has only been arrested and charged. To my knowledge he has not been convicted yet. I will give him his day in court first. That being said Shark, it is public knowledge about his arrest and whether you like or dislike info was posted on here, I believe it is freedom of the press and speech.
Screw that! How many of these cases aren't true? If there is even a hint of something amiss, especially between an adult coach and a child, he should be hung out to dry, and then beaten. You think this guy will go to trial? No way on that, juries don't like the kiddie molestors.
This team was from New Albany (columbus area).
David Wharton is the Head Coach of New Albany High School. His club team is developed now and is producing some good times. It does look like he has some team members from all over the Columbus area. McNamee is from across C-town in Dublin. I had a conversation with Dave recently about his training days with Schoulberg. Some amazing stuff.
Columbus high school swimming appears to have the best and the worst .
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio -- The Upper Arlington swimming coach was arrested and charged with raping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.

Ohio has some of the best High School Swimming in the nation. See the results of the Ohio High School State Swimming Meet at the following address:

As for the last post, GoodSmith, you are an %$#hole for putting that on this site. Goodbye.
Shark,
I suggest you know a little more about who you are speaking to before you launch in to your opinionated reply.
I grew up in Akron, Ohio and in the late 1970s swam for Firestone, High School. My coach was removed from his position for exactly the same type of situation with an underaged female swimmer in the mid 1980s.
I am well aware of Ohio High School swimming. I was a product of it and still proud of it.

There is a (former) swim coach here who is currently serving five years in federal prison, plus seven years in state prison...
Is it me or does it seem like the sport of swimming has had a few too many male swim coaches over the decades that have ventured into the much younger "pool" of female swimmers too often.

I'd hazard a guess that there is probably no significantly greater % than in other sports. Remember too John we're only hearing about the "complaint" cases.
