Nice - you make a rambling speech supporting child molestors and at the end tell us we can't have an opinion or comment on it. Nothing like a double standard.
You take the coach's side, I'll side with the kid - EVERY SINGLE TIME!
It's quite a bit different to read of a coach and a teen player versus a stripper and an inconceivable set of events at Duke. Most of us with half a brain knew that story was bologna from day one. That excluded the president of Duke and the faculty.
I have a close family relation who has worked at Duke for 30 years so was fun to see all the crazy behind the scenes stuff on that.
In today's day and age, if something has been reported in the press it must be true. In a case like this, what evidence could someone have from 12 years ago? Their word? Because he is an educator anyone could make something up and have him convicted before due process. I am an educator and I make damn sure I am never in a room alone with any student. I am also a swim coach and make sure I am never in a room or facility without having my back covered by someone or security cameras. Crazy people make stuff up, especially crazy kids. What prevents someone from making up a story? You people have convicted this guy already. He has just been charged. There may be more to it, but I read The Dispatch everyday, and there has never been any follow up on the initial story, that I have seen. If it turns out that he is innocent, he still will never teach or coach again. If he is guilty, then yes, castrate him, hang him up in front of the public and stone him. Get medieval on it. But, knowing him for the last 16 years, until he is proven guilty by a court of law, I will not believe that it is true. You can have your opinions, and I will have mine. If he is proven guilty, I'll be the first one to say, I told you so, but until then...
I just do not think this is the correct forum for that type of attack. I thought this thread was about some old guys possibly beating a high school record, not beating up on someone.
No wonder we can't get the lurkers out of hiding, this place is full of dragons.
We have an interesting problem here in Oregon.A popular coach,Don King, has been charged with abusing swimmers. His friends say he is just a gregarious guy who hugs everybody, and slaps everybody on the rear when they do a good job.His detractors say he is a dirty old man.He is so sure of his innocence he is insisting on a trial. The trial is about to start.
Look how long it took the Catholic Church....and how much money! That's a whole lot of millions of dollars that could have fed a lot of hungry people in this world.
I do agree that he IS innocent until proven guilty!
Aquageek-that was just my opinion. As a former copper, I guess I still believe in due process regardless of what type of case it is. I have no idea what percentage of these type of stories are true or not and its not for me to decide. When the Duke Lacross team was "charged" with rape and "convicted" by the media, was that due process? If guilty, then ya,obviously give out maximum sentence possible. I am not defending the coach, im defending our rights.
Im not here to argue, I just dont see the difference as you stated. Either way, you have the accused and the alleged victim. Now, stop arguing with me, I didnt start this rant lol.
As for the last post, GoodSmith, you are an %$#hole for putting that on this site. Goodbye.
Huh, what???
He doesn't make the news, he just reports it. Not sure why this qualifies someone as a ...hole. You need to call these coaches out publically, big time.
Is it me or does it seem like the sport of swimming has had a few too many male swim coaches over the decades that have ventured into the much younger "pool" of female swimmers too often.
John Smith
I don't know if swimming is any better or worse than other sports in this regard. Gymnastics and women's soccer have had their share of bad press. The old adage needs to be pinned to every male coach's clipboard - just because you can doesn't mean you should.
