Well it is my junior year at high school and swim season is over, but I'm still looking forward to swimming below :58.0 (finally) in my 100 *** next year.
I thought it would be a good idea-getting an FS-Pro-since a great deal of breaststroke is spent in a streamlined position. Plus, I wanted the other seniors (which make up the medley relay) to match at regionals and hopefully, state.
I've been told you need the highest amount of friction available on your inner leg surfaces, and the least amount of knee constriction. But I've also heard it isn't so bad swimming breaststroke with a full leg covering, and the increased average velocity from your improved streamline outweighs this disadvantage.
I'm starting to wonder why the Pro knee skin was only made for women. Ya'll don't like to wear those do you?
Both Kitajima and Hansen have been wearing jammers. It will be interesting to see what most of the breaststrokers are wearing now that the LZR is out. When the original FS came out I got a full body suit.I was faster in it free and fly but slower breaststroke.I got a kneeskin, but in breaststroke I was still faster in a jammer.I find I flex more in the abdomen/back area in breaststroke than even in fly and I find I feel the suit, which I think is not good.I have seen some world class breaststrokers wearing legskins and I wonder if they have stronger pulls than kicks.I am pretty sure one gets more propulsion in the kick with the lower legs uncovered, but I haven't seen any research on this.At big masters meets most of the faster breaststrokers are wearing kneeskins, but I seem to do better in my jammer, and Jeff Commings does fine in his brief.
I started wearing the legskin after I saw Ed Moses wear it years ago, and I've never gone back to the jammer. Personal preference, mostly. It's just very important to make sure you get the suit on right; if you don't, it feels very awkward to bend your knee. If it's properly positioned though it feels great.
I just want as little drag as possible, but want to maintain flexibility.
should I go buy a leg skin or a hi neck?
or will the loss in flexibility outweigh the hydrodynamic advantage of a hi neck?
