Just wondering if any of you can recommend a competition suit (women's--breaststroke as primary stroke) that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. I am getting back into competition but am not training nearly enough to justify spending $100+ on a suit. Is there something in between the pricey Fastskins and the cheap old lycra suits that anyone else wears?
Wow, thanks! Never thought of eBay. Have no idea what size I'd be in a full-body suit. A 32 is a tight fit (especially shoulder straps) at first for lycra but ends up being fine after many swims. Also not sure if I would want a full-body suit for breaststroke or not. Seems like breaststrokers often wear smaller ones for more leg mobility?
I prefer to compete in a short-john. I've used most of the different manufacture's versions and they don't bother my mobility.
i dont know about price. but just by an aquablade suit. it was the fastskin of the 80's basically. it's used in all of our teams suits that the school buys us.beter than plain old suit but tons less expensive than a fastskin.
Aquablade was not released until the 1996 Olympics.
While the Aquablade fabric may not be as technically advanced as the FSII and LZR, and it's fit is more akin to a standard suit (i.e. no flex panels or contours).
I agree that it's a great alternative to the higher end suits. Most competitive swimmers I know will size down 1 or 2 sizes in a Aquablade that's used for racing purposes......

Yes, the Speedo Aquablade. It should be a little under $100.
I purchased the men's Yingfa sharkskin leggings from this ebay seller (angela.0324) about a month ago. Only swam one meet (first meet in 6 years), but was pleased with them. Definitely felt a kind of bouyant and myabe even less friction than than shaved legs. I've since purchased a highneck suit from the same seller and will try it out this weekend. Here is a link on ebay to a women's suit (although you may need a different size). At $38, including direct shipping from China (about 3 weeks), it's definitely for us cheapskates!

Gobears - I would recommend a high-neck jammer length: not too much coverage on the legs to mess up feel for the water, no coverage on the arms (ditto). I would check on www.swimoutlet.com. If you only wear the suit for big meets (1-2x per year) it should last a while.
Did you swim at Cal? I was there from 83-86...

Can someone please remind me of the best way to select the right size for a men's aquablade suit? Is it one size down? Or more?
And is there a more preferable suit - within reason - that someone might recommend for meets?
I'm thinking about making the switch from my Speedo!
Thanks......
Rick
you probably can get a size smaller than yours,
my waist is 36ish, I race in a 34 jammer but I wear a 30 or 32 B70

Go to swimdownhill.com and George Park can get you a Yinfa. They are great suits. I have a few.
I also just bought a FINIS suit that was $60. I like it better than the B70 b/c it's not as "wetsuity" feeling. Got the FINIS in 2 days with regular ground shipping.
Waiting to see about a JAKED I might be able to get for free...
