Having given up competitive swimming in college for surfing (more bikinis), a landlocked job has me back in the pool with alot of unanswered questions. I'm 46 years old now, and doing about 2,000 meters a day. My biggest question is whether to rest a day when sore from swimming, or to just press on. I'll swim hard for a day or two or three and become pretty sore. Should I keep swimming, or take a day off for recovery?
Mookie,
Need for recovery varies by swimmer, as I believe is being discussed elsewhere on this forum. Some people need recovery a lot; others can just keep trucking along through a succession of tough workouts.
If you tend to get injured easily, you probably need to rest/recover a bit more, especially as you get back into the water. At the same time, though, no pain, no gain - you can't keep backing away when the going gets tough, or you'll never get anywhere.
Find a happy medium, then set a workout schedule/plan and stick to it!
Welcome back to the water, and welcome to the forums! :fish2:
