Having given up competitive swimming in college for surfing (more bikinis), a landlocked job has me back in the pool with alot of unanswered questions. I'm 46 years old now, and doing about 2,000 meters a day. My biggest question is whether to rest a day when sore from swimming, or to just press on. I'll swim hard for a day or two or three and become pretty sore. Should I keep swimming, or take a day off for recovery?
My team typically does pretty hard sets on Mon, Wed, and Fri, with Tues/Thurs usually more laid back recovery/drills. That isn't to say we don't do any distance, sometimes on Tues we'll have very long, easy swims (I remember some days of 3500+ in an hour).
