looks to me like you should start out even easier
then attempt to hold a better average pace
ie go out in 38 then hold 42's
your 2nd 1500 should have felt way better than your first
hopefully your 3rd will be better and faster
looks to me like you attempted to hold a pace
faster than you really could
so you fell off
cruise the 1st 100 super easy then
hold the same pace for the next 1300 then
finish the last 100 with what ever's left
find the pace you can consistently swim the
26 50s after you''ve done your first 100
keep all the times within 0.25 - 0.50
look at how consistent these guys are

I swam the 1500 (SCM) about 10 weeks apart and ended with almost identical times (0.35 faster today) in spite of the training I've been doing in the meantime. In today's race I followed a strategy of intentionally going slower at the beginning. Maybe I've hit my peak for my age. Somewhere after 1000 meters I remember thinking "I am never swimming this race again". We'll see!

Thanks Ande, I think I'll try starting out even slower. I see from their splits that the difference between the fastest and slowest 50 is much smaller.
We did 2000 yards timed in practice today. I managed to keep count and note my splits every 500 at my time at 1650
500 6:30
1000 13:10 (6:40)
1500 20:00 (6:50)
1650 22:00
2000 26:38 (6:38)
I was 22:00 at 1650, not too far off my race pace of 21:38.
This puts your aerobic threshold at a nice even 1:20 per hundred (well, 1:19.9 actually, but I'd say 1:20 is close enough!).
Remember the thread about this? It's got some good information about how to use this information.
Mine worked out to 1:08 per 100. I usually train at 1:10/100 for an aerobic pace, with forays down to 1:00 or 1:05 for "tough" stuff, so I think I'm training where I should be.
