Hello,
There are so many swimming DVDs out there, and they're not exactly cheap so I thought I'd ask in this forum before buying one. I'm looking to improve my freestyle, butterfly, and breastroke. It has recently come to my attention that I drop my elbow in free and don't have a great catch, and I'd like to correct this. Also, I still do the "flat" style breastroke from 20 years ago and haven't gotten the hang of the "wave" style yet. Can anyone recommend suitable DVDs? How about the Go Swim series? Or, the ones from Auburn?
To give you an idea of my level, I do a 55:00 100 SCY free, 59:00 100 SCY fly, and 1:11 100 SCY *** and I'm in my 30s.
Thanks,
Josh
I like GoSwim too. I really like the Eddie Reese's series as well as the Richard Quicks series. You can get both of them from Swimming World Mag. I recently purchased the Eddie Reese series (4 vids) for $150 including shipping.
I wrote a review for three backstroke videos that had just been added to our LMSC's lending library about a year ago. One by Eddie Reese, one by Kim Brackin and David Marsh, and the third by Kim Brackin alone. The review might give you an idea of which style of video you would be most interested in. Here's a link to it www.spma.net/.../sep2006.pdf.
Contact Julie Heather and rent a few of them before you buy. Her info is in the newsletter.
GoSwim has many great films. Look online on the USA Swimming site and you'll see some great links. Good luck and a great film will go a long way to help you improve.
Personally I'm old school, and I like books with pictures. Like, oh, I don't know... Get Wet, Get Fit that is coming out beginning of next year. I hear that's a great instructional tool =)
