Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.
Speaking of vacations, did you get that pretty two-piece you were looking at on SwimOutlet? How was it?
(And speaking of shaving, why is Michael Phelps growing a Fu Manchu beard before the Olympics? Men's Vogue has a hagiographic piece on him plus some photos. It would be difficult to say he was actually wearing that swim costume, which is low enough to show off his tattoos and much else.)
Good grief, I go on vacation ...
Why are guys who are not cyclists or triathletes shaving their entire body, BTW?
Not to mention just flat-out strange.
So it's ok for a chick to look presentable but it's weird if a guy does it?
I worked with a guy who shaved his body because he theorised that women equate men with hairy bodies as being sweaty and dirty, so this way it was one more barrier down in his pursuit of the game--no it was not me Geek (before you imply that!)
there is a difference between a man with some chest hair and one who has enough hair to make an alpaca sweater. i am so used to seeing guys with shaved legs when i see one without it just looks strange.

You can't look "presentable" without shaving? Maybe men are effected by magazines (depicting men with shiny sleek chests) as much as women? I don't mind a bit of hair, but alpaca sweaters = bad.

"Men"
The only guys I know who regularly shave are hard core cyclists. I don't know any swimmers who regularly shave and none who feel the need to shave south of the border. I take unlimited grief from my friends for wearing speedos (who cares about that btw?), but if they found out there was a faction who also go for the porn glory with man shaving, I'd be shamed beyond belief.
Please stop before it gets out of hand, it simply is unacceptable.

Well, shaving your entire body is a royal PIA...I only mow down for the 2 zones meets. If body suits were cheaper and lasted, I'd fork out for one so as not to have to endure the whole shaving performance.
Why is there so much public crying, angst and drama among girls in their early-to-mid teens at swim meets? The last few swim meets I've been at, I've seen a fair number of girls sobbing on deck after races. For example, I just attended a summer league all star meet and the winner of an event was crying at the award ceremony (failed to do a PB) in front of all the girls who finished behind her. Blech. They cry over everything -- didn't do a PB, "choked" at a big meet, haven't improved in their signature stroke, let the relay down, swam worse in finals than prelims, didn't do as well as their seed, lost to a rival, etc. My kid's no better; she just had strep throat before a couple big meets and has been in full drama mode.
I'm not a fan of crying at sporting events. Can't they cry in private in the locker room or something? How can you create some perspective/big picture for the hormonal ones?

Fort - You have to remember that this is their world. It's all relative. It seems that many high-achievers seem to be perfectionists to the point that when they fall short of their own high, often unrealistic goals, it is the end of the world.
As other things become more important in their life, it seems they outgrow the crying spells after a disappointing race. We have a perspective that they don't have and they can't relate to.
