I'm seeking creative ideas on how to persuade my spouse that I simply must go to a travel meet in December. He didn't quite make vomit noises when I mentioned it, but looked a bit (not unduly) irritated/bewildered/annoyed by my desire to compete in meets. (He hasn't raced much lately.) The timing was likewise unappealing. Any thoughts?
I was contemplating calling my mother and begging for a visit.
Does it HAVE to be swimmers from the same team in a relay? Also, does the classic even HAVE relays?
Of all the things I loved about swimming meets, relays were the #1
Paul
You must be on the same team for relays. But no relays at Sprint Classic. Stud and I were discussing his upcoming events at the NE Champs though, not the Classic. The 200 fly is midway between the 50 and 100 BR, so it's be a good event for him.
If you do the 200BR I'll do the fly...will take me 4 minutes as I'll be do it as a 4x50 set.
No, the 200 BR is right before the 100 fly, which I'll likely be swimming as a 2 x 50 set with a coffee break at the wall.
Many meets have a 10-15 min break at various points in the meet.Fort, you should ask for a 10 min break between the first and second 50 of the 100 fly. That would be good for the 200 BR for me.:rofl:

This is where Canadian Masters Swimming is more flexible

Rule 5.02 will allow teams (at the discretion of the Meet Manager) to be formed of swimmers not belonging to the same club (I'm unattached, thus my interest in this). Such teams will be considered as an "exhibition" team and results will not count towards records or Top 20.
I suggested this to the Club that organizes the one (and only) Masters annual LCM event in Ottawa and they will try to form such a team (or more?) during next February's meet (Winterlude 2008).
Should be fun to do two 50 frees LCM in one meet.
Back to to the original question, how to persuade your spouse that you must go to a meet (and you want his company)? It all boils down to the meet that you choose. Let me recommend USMS long course nationals in Oregon, August 2008. Within an hour from the pool your spouse can eat, drink, and recreate to his heart's content, and still get back in time to take you out for a nice evening on the town. See more here: forums.usms.org/showthread.php, and here: www.lcnationals2008.net/default.htm
Ahmed,
I think there are some smaller meets that allow this to occur informally, and also mark as exhibition.
I don't know if that is competely illegal in USMS or something, but personally, I think it would be nice.
One of our local meets has a "coconut relay" at the end of their meet, where you have to swim with an increasing # coconuts. no team restrictions, but then it is unofficial
Where do you put the coconuts?
Most people swim head out of water with a coconut in each hand and any additional ones in the water in the area boundaried by head and arms, swimming water-polo-styleish. Some do stuff their suits. Perhaps you should make plans to come down to the Alexandria Masters Tropical Splash meet the last weekend of January and see how it is done! I'll be happy to be on your team!
