How to persuade spouse you must go to a meet?

I'm seeking creative ideas on how to persuade my spouse that I simply must go to a travel meet in December. He didn't quite make vomit noises when I mentioned it, but looked a bit (not unduly) irritated/bewildered/annoyed by my desire to compete in meets. (He hasn't raced much lately.) The timing was likewise unappealing. Any thoughts? I was contemplating calling my mother and begging for a visit.

Ahmed, I think there are some smaller meets that allow this to occur informally, and also mark as exhibition. I don't know if that is competely illegal in USMS or something, but personally, I think it would be nice. One of our local meets has a "coconut relay" at the end of their meet, where you have to swim with an increasing # coconuts. no team restrictions, but then it is unofficial  Friend relays would be cool expecially for those of us without a team or big travel contingents. I could fulfill Geeks dreams of anchoring his relay team...

Most people swim head out of water with a coconut in each hand and any additional ones in the water in the area boundaried by head and arms, swimming water-polo-styleish. Some do stuff their suits. Perhaps you should make plans to come down to the Alexandria Masters Tropical Splash meet the last weekend of January and see how it is done! I'll be happy to be on your team! NJ and I-95 in the depth of winter? Just to stuff coconuts down my FSII?...I don't know about that...
