How to persuade spouse you must go to a meet?

I'm seeking creative ideas on how to persuade my spouse that I simply must go to a travel meet in December. He didn't quite make vomit noises when I mentioned it, but looked a bit (not unduly) irritated/bewildered/annoyed by my desire to compete in meets. (He hasn't raced much lately.) The timing was likewise unappealing. Any thoughts? I was contemplating calling my mother and begging for a visit.

  • Well, I'm glad I'm married to a man that just wants me to do anything I want to do, travel included, that makes me happy. He is a non-swimmer but knows that water and swimming are my life and has been my life since age 7 or 8. And he's more than happy to let me fly anywhere to attend a swim function. The reason is this: if I'm happy, then he'll be happy. And this philosophy also works both ways. He wanted to go to the Indy 500 with his brother from California but didn't want to leave me alone. I helped him pack and happily drove him to the airport. The bottom line here was this: we want to make one another happy and sometimes that means doing things separately because we don't share the same love for one another's interests. :cheerleader: And this theory is why I'm betting I will go! We'll see. But, er, "just wants you to do anything you want to do"?! Hmmm.... anything? (I would also note that you two are kid-less and therefore different rules apply. :mooning: :thhbbb: :wine: )
