where are Nationals in 2009?

I was wondering where USMS nationals will be in 2009?
  • Fort,obviously the 50 back couldn't have had the best swimmers since you weren't there.Come on,you REALLY should see Oregon in Aug.I guarantee it will be less hot and humid than where you are.

As one who lived in Oregon and now lives near Fort in VA I can 100% agree with the lower humidity in Oregon. A bad day is 20%. That's a good day in Virginia. Alison
  • Alison,come back,all is forgiven:rofl::banana:.
  • Well what do you know? There are direct flights from Seattle to Fresno on Alaska Airlines. I have to admit, Fresno doesn't seem like the ideal location on first blush, but I find I'm not doing a whole lot outside the pool during Nationals meets other than sleeping and eating, anyway. If the facility is nice, it should be a good place for the meet. Geek's comment about the proximity to Yosemite got me thinking, too. Kings Canyon and Sequoia are also nearby. Geez, I feel like I really need to defend Clovis here! As my club coach used to say about big meets, he didn't care where they were because you only saw the big three anyway, airport, hotel and pool. Clovis has beautiful pools. They have so many nice pools, I'm not even sure which facility they are having it at! Each of the five Clovis high schools has at least one 50 meter pool, and one of them, Clovis East, has two fifty meter pools. I can guarantee that the weather will be sunny and warm, but not too hot yet. I went to nationals in Seattle last year, and Federal Way isn't exactly a garden spot, but I still had a great time! If you come, you will have a nice facility, nice weather, no bugs and plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities. There is a real airport there with nonstop connections throughout the United States, and many fine hotel and dining options. The meet will be what you make of it!
  • Although Fresno may not be on the top of your list as vacation mecca's...the pool is one of the fastest outdoor pools in the US. Yeah I'd love another meet in Hawaii....but the truth is the quality of the facility and level of competition is what is going to bring me to the meet. In both cases Clovis will host a very fast meet and I hope some of you east coast whiners :banana: will make the trip and support the club for stepping up to host!! PS: I made it all the way out to Baltimore by the way!

Eek. True confession. Aside from the difficulty of ditching the entire fam for an extended period, and as much as I love SF, I'm a little leary about going to the west coast in August for a big meet. My ENT doc says the west coast is very bad for allergy sufferers at that time -- and I was NOT prepared for the lack of breathing at Worlds. But maybe it's all those imported exotic plants in the Bay area? Is Oregon more au naturale? I'm probably allergic to every tree there ... Outdoor or indoor meet? I think I'd need therapy and good drugs to go. Besides, I like heat. Summer is good. (S)he-Man, just leave the hubby at home and we can have a GNO at some fun meet. But I draw the line on Disney World, sistah! Tall Paul: I did go to Coral Springs and SF in 2006, so I've done some travel duty! Travel duty just frequently conflicts with mommy duty -- and don't give me that stuff about your exotic dogs!
  • Alison,come back,all is forgiven:rofl::banana:. Allen, I'd come back in a heart beat but my husband has his job here now :( If we ever win (or play for that matter) the lottery, we're coming back! Fort, if it helps at all, the competition pool is outside but the warm-up/down is indoor. Oregon tends to go with native plants and I never had allergies while living there (I do here, though) Alison

  • Geez, I feel like I really need to defend Clovis here! Hey, I was trying to throw my support behind Clovis. I admit it was in a slightly underhanded manner, but still... :) Paul Smith brings up a good point which is that it will be an outdoor meet. I love outdoor meets!

I love outdoor meets! Thanks for the love. I think us west coast people need to stick together to counter-balance the obvious east coast bias!;)
