where are Nationals in 2009?

I was wondering where USMS nationals will be in 2009?
  • Just decided SCY - Clovis, CA LCM - Indy
  • Just decided SCY - Clovis, CA LCM - Indy Hmmm, Indy eh? Let's see what I can do with a year of training under my ever decreasing belt. Paul
  • Just decided SCY - Clovis, CA LCM - Indy Clovis?! Are you kidding? Who on earth is going to go to Clovis? There isn't even a real airport close to there. Very disappointing.
  • Clovis?! Are you kidding? Who on earth is going to go to Clovis? There isn't even a real airport close to there. Very disappointing. There's very little redeeming about Fresno, that's for sure. It's within (long) driving distance for me at least.... Maybe nobody will come? That would be awesome (again, for me). ;)

Crazy subway-ridin' new yorkers... its called a CAR!!! :wiggle: So the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport isn't a real airport? I mean yeah, I've never heard of that one either, but it is an international airport - must be sorta important. Its airport code is FAT! Indy will be great. I bet that will be pretty well attended. But yeah, S_G, I concur, this is a very interesting selection. Yet another left-coast meet of late. HH - any word on where the other bids were from? When are we going to get to go back to the Nassau County facility?

Can't be flying out to the west coast too often, en famille or solo. Blew my west coast vacation wad at Worlds last year. But I'm sure there will be a lot of very fast Oregon Masters and Pacific Masters there. (And what an awesome website those Oregon Masters have.) If I do a travel meet in 2009, it would be Indy. I'd love to swim in that pool some day.

Fort, I'll have to pass on your compliments to Robbert, the OMS web master. He does a good job keeping up with the changing web site. (by the way, that's my logo in the middle of the page). I wish UMD would host Nationals again. I don't see myself flying to CA or driving to Indy for either of the 2009 meets. Guess I'm with Fort and staying a bit more local. Alison
  • We also have the PG Sports and Learning Complex, Naval Academy, Takoma Rec Center, Freedom/Manassas AC, UMBC, MAC, Germantown AC, outdoor RMSC, all with 50M pools and good-sized meet experience. But for a national meet??? Not so much. Of course the easy solution to the "problem" is to do like the YMCA does, and use bids and just lock in a single location each for 3 SCY Nationals' and SCM Nationals. I vote for Ft Lauderdale/HOF for both! Unfortunately, Freedom Ctr isn't large enough. For SC Nats there needs to be 2 pools running which means no warm-up/down area at Freedom and same for LC. I wish we could hold it since it's such a nice pool (minus the band aids they never clean up). I like your idea of USMS contacting pools that can hold Nats and seeing if they are willing. Alison

Alison Does PG just have the two pools as well? No warm down facility? Can't remember. Just know I hate driving there. Freedom Center definitely not big enough for that many people.
  • Maybe I'd actually go to a nationals in Fresno....just a flight away from the Phoenix area (although it looks like it is one of those flights that doesn't get discounted, like AUS), or a long drive. Nice to see some meets making their way out West, and not all on the East coast. Makes sense, as the population out here grows more, there should be more activities, including masters swimming meets.
