I was just at the FAT airport in June. It is very small and nice. Parking and rental cars are ultra-convenient (most large strip malls have larger parking lots). I don't know a thing about the pool facilities but I can attest to Fresno being somewhat difficult to get to from the East Coast. There are plenty of flights but you do have to take a couple of segments to get there.
It's only 90 miles from Yosemite, which would be a neat side trip for a few days. We were out there for a wedding in Yosemite, pretty spectacular.
