Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.

:mooning: I think he's more likely to grope Jodi Rell than beat her up...but who knows...
  • Van Dyken does not bring grace to the pool and describes herself as mean and stubborn. www.geocities.com/.../amybio.htm
  • Van Dyken did state that she could beat de Bruijn if she were "a man." Van Dyken, who was very vocal in accusing de Bruijn of doping, was called before the BALCO grand jury. I seem to recall she was a nutritional supplement client of Conte? But being called before a grand jury doesn't necessarily mean anything ... I agree, Kirk! Spitting in lanes is not a class act at all.
  • Didn't Amy Van Dyken accuse Inky of being more male than female...... :-) Then.... again..... didn't Amy get called into the Balco trial at one point too? Yeah, she was a real class act :shakeshead:
  • Dan, Skip, You're medal counting and need to be careful as we are discussing "owning" an individual event........... not a relay. Owning an event like Tracy, Mary T. or Janet means setting a World record and going undefeated for long periods both at US nationals and World events. Dara has never established this. Dara is a spectacular sprinter, but she is not on the same level as these women. I'm sorry..... my wife trained with Mary T., I trained a summer in Gainesville and saw Tracy workout. These women were incredible in their events and dominated the field in their events every time they hit the water for years on end. For you to compare Dara's winning performances on an equal level to Phelps is truly absurd. John Smith I never compared Dara perfromances to Phelps. What I said is that if Dara makes 5 Olympic teams that would be a challenge for Phelps. That means he would have to stay in the sport of swimming until 2020. That would mean he would have to stay swimming until he is 35 years old. He has stated that he plans to swim until 2012 and has made no plans beyond that. Please show me where I compared Dara to Phelps. Name me one American sprinter that owned there event? And don't compare non sprinters with this. Compare people that swam sprints like Dara. That is why I made the comparison to the 3 swimmers that I mentioned. The other 3 swimmers did own there events but the events that I was referring to like 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Fly was to make a valid comparison with swimmers during the same time periods.

Rich, let me know if you'd like me to "phantom enter" the spoiled one in the 400IM. There's nothing like a good ole :dedhorse: feeling when you dive in for an 800 :cane:. Could make for a very interesting race between you two :cheerleader: What, my line-up isn't full enough for you Muppet??? Besides, I'd never make it through the fly portion of the 400IM without dopping. Don't you have a time limit for the meet?

I hate to say but this thread about an innocent person should be written in the joke thread. Non Swimming-Related Discussions.

Dan, You assume a lot of rational thought in the mind of a cheater. It's not all about weighing the risk for them, its about the winning, the ego, the acceptance, the public recognition......etc...... Is her freestyle stroke great...... hell yes. I could probably point out a few flaws in the race, but they are easily overcome by her upper body strength in her stroke. The issue was never whether she was or is talented. The issue on this thread is........... "the edge". I don't know..... sometimes I wonder what is to be gained by making 5 Olympic teams vs. 4 Olympic teams ? John Smith If I assume rational thought aren't you assuming the opposite? I tend to think that a cheater who openly invites more frequent testing than required has rationally assessed the risk. Those who believe Lance cheated think he did it with the help of the mysterious Dr. Ferrari - confident enough to withstand multiple out of competition tests and a required test for every stage win? Lance is perhaps one of the most driven and competitive athletes of modern times but his method of training and preparation was surely VERY rational. I don't think there is any evidence that Dara is irrational. All signs are that she sets goals and works hard to achieve them. Her training today (less is more?) has been modified to create explosive speed, take advantage of her stroke and size, and minimize the risk of injury (e.g. overuse). As for 5 Olympics vs. 4 - I would never question nor care why that is important to Dara as long as she is competing fairly.

If the testing is random, how do you know when to take them in order to be clean for testing? Even if they flush within a few days, if you take them today and get tested at home tomorrow...you're toast. No?
