Delayed Onset Muslce Soreness if anyone doesn't know what they are. I'm very familiar with DOMS form lifting but they were alway localized to the muscle groups worked. Lately I've been working a lot harded in the pool and about 30 hours later I'm in systemic pain. It starts at the top of my glutes and goes all the way to the base of my skull and its I deep down sorenes unlike anything I've ever felt before. It lasts over night and the next moring I'm fine. Is this normal?
  • Sometimes, my triceps and/or glutes to hamstrings get sore after intense swimming workouts. But I would be concerned about the pain going up your back to the base of your scull. What are you doing during your workouts?
  • I'll get it occasionally in my triceps and lats after a real hard 1650/1500 or long open water swim.

To me pain is not normal. I have had pain after a 15 mile or longer race. This of course was from trying to come first. When I trained I never put maximum strain on the muscles. But the workouts I see others doing I do not know how they do it (Ande). I was always a believer in technique rather than force.

What are you doing during your workouts? Nothing really that different, just swimming harder to get out of my comfort zone and move a little faster. It may not have been swimming related soreness at all. I just heard that our mold count here in St. Louis is off the chart and we've had some very hot and dusty days - mold and dust totally do me in. The pain was almost like you feel when you're coming down with something so I'm thinking it was allergy related but I sure did feel like crap for awhile.
