old school speedo goggles

I see that you can't get the old style of speedo goggles (big roundish lenses with foam pads, plastic noisepiece with adjustment notches, rubber strap). I'm kind of disappointed because that was the kind I always used, and my current pair are wearing out. I tried a couple new styles of goggles that I'm not completely happy with, like 'speedo vanquisher'. what exactly was wrong with the old style and why did they have to go and change it? they were cheap, comfortable, functional, and you could get replacement parts like new straps when the old one wore out.

  • And that's exactly the reason why they stopped making them. So You (or anyone) would have to buy new (more expensive, less reliable), more expensive ones.............. and more often. I disagree. I think the new goggles are way better than the old ones. The silicone straps don't deteriorate like the old rubber ones did and the neoprene gasket is much better than the old foam, which tended to pack out after a few months use. At this point it seems like the lifespan of Vanquishers is limited by the lenses getting so scratched up that they fog up too easily. David, if you don't like Vanquishers definitely give the Swedes a try. I personally don't like them, but lots of people swear by them.
