  • Wow, It appears that somebody might clean up on some of Chris' backstroke records!!! Oh, I have always understood that any backstroke records I set can last, at best, until Mike Ross ages up. He'll break 50.0 in the 100 back and break 1:40 in the 200 free; he's a very fast man. Even so, I didn't expect him to go quite that fast. His first 100 split would almost certainly beat everyone else in the 100. His 200 time was faster than the old 35-39 record (set by Karnaugh, no piker)...except THAT record was broken with a 1:47.7, the fastest ever masters time in the 200 back. Poor Duane Dobko snuck under a very tough national record...and gets beat by 2 seconds! Besides the Smith v Smith showdown, the 40-44 50 free race will be interesting: Mike Ross vs Shaun Jordan. It's a fast heat, too: the slowest entry is 22.1. The 400IM race in 40-44 was very fast. 4:23 got 6th place? That time would have been in the thick of the race for first at many other nationals meets.

    Mr. Smith sets another record. That's fast. Can't wait to see some of these heats on FlowSwimming. 1 Smith, Paul L 48 ARIZ 23.00 22.67N 2 Smith, John C 46 ARIZ 23.50 23.14 3 Ponthier, Chuck 45 LAPS 23.50 23.22 4 Killeen, Robert 46 WAWA 24.17 23.62 5 Hughey, Richard L 45 AMS 25.02 23.64 6 Golden, Larry 47 ARKM 24.53 23.66 7 Kenny, John 47 SMU 25.00 23.80 7 Hering, Brad V 46 ARIZ 23.89 23.80 9 Britt, J Clay 47 ANCM 24.00 24.01 10 Pratt, John 45 IM 24.80 24.28

The 50 free is going to be the real show down event.
  • John Smith missing Paul's record by .01 has got to be the subject of conversation over dinner tonight. But he got it on the 200 FR leadoff; the relay set a record too. 1 ARIZ 'A' 1:35.40 1:34.48N 1) Smith, John C M46 2) Bailey, Monica M W47 3) Rollins, Stephanie S W53 4) Smith, Paul L M48 21.10 47.30 (26.20) 1:13.61 (26.31) 1:34.48 (20.87) So we have the old man victorious in the 50 fly with a national record and the younger Smith taking the 50 free with a national record. And then they team-up for a relay record. Judges rule a tie for the day. Too bad they aren't swimming head-to-head in a REAL race tomorrow (200 free)...I guess Smith the Younger felt he HAD to defend his newly-minted national record in the 100 IM. I saw Whitney's name in a relay too, that's great. Ande, tell her that her old age group coach Diane Caycee says "hi," I see Diane almost every day (I sent her the link of Whitney on video). Congrats to everyone, excellent swimming!

What are the odds of hitting your seed time in a 50? Must have a huge let down to miss by .01!
