  • I haven't had time to go through everything like I was before, but certain results still warrant mention: 11 Hochstein, Erik 39 SCAQ 4:35.00 5:12.61 23.87 49.85 (25.98) 1:16.12 (26.27) 1:42.50 (26.38) 2:24.64 (42.14) 3:01.28 (36.64) 3:35.90 (34.62) 4:08.97 (33.07) 4:41.18 (32.21) 5:12.61 (31.43) Should this sort of thing be referred to as "pulling a Smith" or is that too ambiguous?

I've still got my buzz from Austin, and I had to come home early today (Sunday). What a fantastic meet. How can you beat swimming as both a participatory AND a spectator sport? And the post-swimming revelry was healthy as well. I thought it was only girls that peed their pants when they laughed. I've had enough belly laughs to last me quite some time.

This event has been the most incredible Masters meet I've ever seen, full of extraordinary people and mind-boggling swimming. Kudos to the hosts for running a top-notch event!
  • Dave Gibson (IL teammate) pointed out that it is good that qualifying times are averaged over 3 years, otherwise next years Nationals would get clobbered. :)
  • You guys might want to check out the video for "last swimmer out of the water" over on floswimming. If I'm not mistaken we might know the star of that one! :)
  • Erik Scalise, one of the fastest swimmers in USMS, scratched both the 400 IM and the 200 back today. Anyone know why? I talked to Erik a couple months ago online and asked him if he planned on going and said he wasn't because he was going to concentrate on Olympic Trials in June.
  • Michelle! Glad you came out of hiding and posted. The stretching was simply amazing ...? I will send pics when I can. Those might be the only pics I got all weekend - big bummer. Anyway - awesome meeting everyone. What a fabulous meet. I hope UT bids again in the near future - however I will enjoy terrorizing other towns. You are all fab!

Hi everybody, Just wanted to thank you all for making my trip to Austin, Texas worth the effort. Wonderful competition, wonderful pool and wonderful people. It was really motivating to have seen the Masters Swimming in the US and meet you all! Regards and good luck in the future! Jan (travelling from sweden to swim with you) Hope to see you in Gothenburg 2010!
  • Had a great time this year. Loved putting the names and faces on the boards together at last in person. Spent some quality time getting to know people from all over and friends from the past too. The last day was the hardest because the reality thing starts to creep back in. I don't want to go back to work tomorrow.
  • We drained the hot water at the end of the day (no surprise) so the showers were cold. Yeah, I think we pretty well maxed out what that facility can reasonably accommodate. But, hey, if cold water in the showers is our biggest gripe that's a good meet. Seriously this was probably the best run I've been to. It just ran like clockwork. Another impressive announcing performance by Mark Gill. He was starting to sound a little like Jimmy Durante late Saturday, but he kept going. The guy's a trooper! I'm sure I met more new people at this meet than the rest of the Nationals meets combined. It was great to meet everyone!
