I thought I read somewhere that in a race if you switch lanes and don't interfere with other swimmers and finish in the orginal lane, it is leagal. Is this correct for uss swimming. If it is what rule number is it in the rule book?

You'd lose time, IMO in crossing lanes. Also surely the turn would become a point of "interfering with another swimmer" it could be judged that you forced the other swimmer to turn off centre... Be sure to film this Warren and get a full report form the officials on any DQ or lack thereof.
