  • So the kicks don't have to be the typical backstroke (flutter) kick? correct, many swimmers are faster at streamlined dolphin kick SDK than they are at 1) swimming backstroke and 2) streamlined flutter kick. Fast kickers tend to kick as far as they legally and sensibly can in events. The trade off is you can't breathe till you surface. Swimmers can be very aggressive in 50's and 100's Swimmers need to use some caution in the 200 bk, fr, & IM and the 400 IM and the 500 free Taking too many SDK's in longer events can be detrimental Many freestylers take 2 - 10 SDK's off each wall would *** (or any other) kick on your back also be allowed yes but *** kick is much slower for most swimmers because they break streamline. here's some SDK footage: Ian Crocker 100 fly 2007 worlds www.youtube.com/watch Piersol 100 back 2007 worlds www.youtube.com/watch Ryan Lochte 100 SCM back49.99 youtube.com/watch So the kicks don't have to be the typical backstroke (flutter) kick? If fly kick on your back is allowed, would *** (or any other) kick on your back also be allowed, as long as you surface by the 15 meter mark? I guess I'm more of a traditionalist. If I'm doing backstroke, I tend to limit myself to doing only backstroke, and not fly. But if I can do *** kicks, I may play around.
