Was just taking a look at the psych sheet for the Speedo Grand Challenge this weekend in Irvine, CA (www.socalswim.org/.../NOVA.pdf.
Amanda Beard is entered in the 100 ***, 200 IM, 100 Fly and 200 ***. Glad to see she's coming back to competition.
Hey Mark, I noticed the trailing paren is getting included in the link so it won't work if people click on it.
What Mel said is interesting because I was under the impression she was training in So Cal, not Arizona. She is listed as swimming for Trojan in the psych sheet.
Reports from the Ford Aquatics swimmers at Federal Way were that she is again training with Frank Busch. However, there was general agreement among these same folks that she is VERY distracted.
It will be interesting to see.
Oops, the all-time performers list on USA Swimming hasn't been updated to reflect those times. That certainly makes it interesting, but I still think Beard will make the team if she is serious about doing so.
I agree, Kirk, IF she has the motivation. Also despite her talent, it may be too late for a serious run at the team unless she really has been training for the past several months. We'll see this weekend!!!
Does that mean that you are posing w/o clothes also? Which magazine should the girls be looking for?
Mel, sorry to disappoint, but Pirates Monthly's inaugural issue never made it to the presses.
I just mean she's distracting me!:whiteflag:
So how'd she swim? I was wondering when she would start training and competing again. I think she is going to have a tough time making another Olympic team.
I think she is going to have a tough time making another Olympic team.
Really? Skip Thompson and I were discussing this at Nationals and we think she won't have a difficult time making the team in the 200 ***. It's a pretty weak event for the U.S. Amanda's best time is a 2:22. The next best active Americans are Tara Kirk and Rebecca Soni, both at 2:26. Amanda really just needs to be within striking distance of her 2:22 to make the team.

NOPE!!! Soni went a 2:24 at the Duel in the Pool and Caitlin Leverenz (only 16) went a 2:25. Jendrick also went a 2:25 in winning the silver medal at Worlds. I see all three of these ladies improving over the next year especially Leverenz. My prediction is that Beard doesn't make the team.
