Was just taking a look at the psych sheet for the Speedo Grand Challenge this weekend in Irvine, CA (www.socalswim.org/.../NOVA.pdf.
Amanda Beard is entered in the 100 ***, 200 IM, 100 Fly and 200 ***. Glad to see she's coming back to competition.
Oops, the all-time performers list on USA Swimming hasn't been updated to reflect those times. That certainly makes it interesting, but I still think Beard will make the team if she is serious about doing so.
Hmm, yes, that is interesting. Perhaps she just wanted to get in and show everyone that she wasn't that distracted by everything. Times look good, and with those fly/im events in there, looks like she's experimenting with a few events too.
Maybe she is contemplating a jump to Masters swimming: swim some off-strokes, scratch the later races if the meet is taking too long (or even if it isn't)...
I think she swam pretty well considering this is her first competition since Athens. She made Olympic Trials cuts in the 100 and 200 *** and the 200 IM. She's still got a ways to go, but I think it's a good start.

It's great to see her getting back into competition. She still has a few seasons left in athletic career.
Amanda is one of my all time favorite racers to watch. I hope she does well. And to answer someone earlier - yes, she has been swimming in socal at Trojan for a while now with Dave Salo. Apparently she continues swimming between Olympics without competing, but then a year and a half out gets really serious about her training...and then BAM!! lol.
Another breaststroker to watch is Keri Hehn, also on Trojan, who just went a 2:27. She still seems to be improving as well. Caitlin will be tough, and I know Tara is hanging on pretty good too. Oh, I love Olympic Trials.
