Amanda Beard in Playboy

Swiminfo.com has released a post saying that Amanda Beard will be on the cover of the July issue for Playboy. How do you think this will effect her image among the swimming communties? Will any of us purchase this issue because of her?
  • C'mon dude, I 've been informed that Jenna and Playboy are at opposite ends of adult entertainment. I don't see this as being the same thing. You continue to prove the point. First, you use a porn star to justify Amanda's decision. Now, you admit she's in the adult entertainment industry. Wait, she's a swimmer, right? I can't keep it all straight - swimmer, stripper, skank - so many terms for her now, I'm sure that was her intention when she cashed the check. After all, it's only about the money. I guess there are still a few of us who think if you take off your clothes for money you are a skank, or a 'ho, but I'll leave Imus out of this.
  • What happened to "it takes a village"? You are way off base, the quote is "it takes a viagra." Get with the program, amigo.

I don't have that book in my collection can somebody pm me? a) Is there a tongue in cheek smiley? b) Neither do I have that Book, but the passage referenced is Googleable. (Afterwards, review, the Guilty pleas, the Not Guilty assertions and those whose silence in this particular context, while not in tune with their usual volubility, relies on the 5th -Amendment, not passage from Matthew or others).

I would have thought that after her long Olympic climb which took years of sacrifice, she would have a different goal than Playboy. But it probably is strictly financial for her. I thought she was doing an apparel and cosmetic line last year. Is this still true? Maybe Playboy was the only magazine who offered her money. Glamour mag probably wouldn't. I've just never thought she was very attractive at all. She doesn't stand out in a crowd looks-wise. But maybe she really needs the money for herself and her family. Those can be very motivating factors.
  • Annointed swimming hero: OK, I will jump to your side in that our kids need role models. Being a father of girls, I'm more knowledgeable about their needs versus those of boys. Obviously, as my daughters choose their role models in swimming, I shall steer them towards successful swimmers who have used their swimming fame towards a rewarding or fulfilling life. In this forum, it seems obvious that our own Fort (despite her commie extremes), Duggan and swimr4life would be good candidates. There are also quite a few non Masters athletes out there for them to look up to. If they also need a role model who is a pole dancin', extra skanky, strip teasin' former swimmer, well they now can fill that niche as well.

I taught my daughters to be indendent thinkers, they would have to make their own decision on their own. In Canada you have to be an adult to buy certain magazines.
