Swiminfo.com has released a post saying that Amanda Beard will be on the cover of the July issue for Playboy.
How do you think this will effect her image among the swimming communties? Will any of us purchase this issue because of her?
It's swimming news because it involves one of the most famous swimmers on the face of the Earth. When Phelps was arrested for drunk driving do you think Swimming World, et al were wrong to report on it because it wasn't strictly swimming related?
I see your point. But maybe there is a distinction between "swimming news" and "news" (of a tabloid nature almost) involving "swimmers."
There is a distinction too between Phelps and Beard. Phelps admitted he was dead wrong and apologized for being an ass. He said he was not a good role model and agreed he had disappointed swimming kids everywhere. He was arrested. Beard is getting paid big bucks to pose nude (presumably) in a men's magazine, and thus will appear to have endorsed the activity.
Being a "commie," however, I will agree that her actions don't reflect on her sexual proclivity. And I agree that you can flirt or have lustful thoughts, but not act on them. No bible verse necessary; we have brains and free will.
