Swiminfo.com has released a post saying that Amanda Beard will be on the cover of the July issue for Playboy. How do you think this will effect her image among the swimming communties? Will any of us purchase this issue because of her?

I'll pass on making any judgements. Amanda can do as she wishes, but we are all still allowed to have our opinions of her. My opinion is that its a "bad choice" (in the same sense I use that term in raising my children) for her, in a long line of what I consider bad choices. But they are her choices, and she is allowed to make them, and she gets to live with the consequences. But I do want to ask somewhat philosophically why SwimmingWorldMagazine.com seems to think this is news worth reporting? It surely is of interest based on the number of responses in this thread. It does not seem to have anything to do with swimming per se, although its about someone who swims. I found it interesting that they took a page out of Playboy's handbook and put a sampling of Amanda's swimming results in there as "gratuitous swimming news" (most recent result from 2004 as I recall) to justify posting it on the site. ...so, will it also be reported how many (underage) USAS and USMS members purchase this magazine and what they do with it? I suggest that they use some measure of "distance per stroke" as the gratuitous swimming tie in to the follow up. Just another bozo on this bus... Steve "Hot dog, groatcakes again" "Its all coming back to me like the hard fist at the end of a wet kiss" "If you push something hard enough, it will fall over"
