I suggest a long pole (maybe the infamous pole) with pointy tip...you can use it to encourage any dawdlers!!

There is nothing wrong with being seated last and coming in last as long as you give it your best effort on that day!
I am seated last in 2 events and as long as I beat my times from last year, which I should, I will be happy.
Perhaps several of you are talking about seeding, not seating. Unless Nationals has reserved seats for the qualifiers!
Swimming positions are just like tennis - 1st seed, 2nd seed, etc.

You are correct sir! Using "seated" rather than "seeded" is a common mistake I hear quite a bit.
