Pools in NYC

I have just moved to NYC, living near 111 east 48th. I am looking for a pool that accepts pay as you go for a good rate. Anyone know one or alternatively open water swims? Thanks, Arpad You're very close to the Vanderbilt Y on 47th Street and Third Avenue. They have day passes, although I'm not sure of the rate (I think it's about $20).

Red Tide, a fun USMS team, works out at Baruch College on 23rd Street - I forget the cross street. The pool is 2 floors below ground level, but I visited NYC one weekend and had a good workout with them. Say hello to Kristin Gary for me if you decide to work out with them. There's also Asphalt Green on 91st Street and York Avenue - another nice facility which hosts a USMS program. Also there is a pool at Chlsea Piers, maybe at 23rd and 11th Avenue? Pretty hard to get to, I think, since it's so far west. I don't know about membership as a "contributing member of society", but when I was in my early 20's, I had what was called an "athletic membership" at New York Athletic Club, just off Central Park South. I believe Bill Specht trained there as well?
