Things to do in the water other than "just swim laps"

Here are some things I'm particularly enjoying: -- doing a deep dive off the board, trying to touch then bottom, and then dolphin kicking back to the surface -- doing a bunch of flip turns in a row "on the spot" in the water, rather than off the wall -- anything involving attempting to recover an object (e.g. brick) -- anything involving a pole What are your little quirky things? Or is everyone here so busy training that no one has any fun in the water?

Hmm, let me think... One-arm freestyle (hand-lead) One-arm backstroke (head-lead) Lazy legs freestyle (arms only) Lazy arms freestyle (kicking with alternating left/right sholder above water) One-arm fly drill (straight/bent recovery arm) Three breaststroke, one fly Three backstrokes, glide, same again, glide Two backstroke, five front crawl no-breathers repeat Underwater freestyle Swim very slowly Find every variation of turning:coffee:

Or is everyone here so busy training that no one has any fun in the water? I swim at a 24hr Fitness lap pool. My quirks are other people who do anything other then lap swimming (or even walking, just so long as they go back and fourth length wise and give way if sharing lanes) in the lap pool. When they do, they usually ruin it for anyone trying to lap swim. For other forms of water recreation, I go to the beach.

Lay on the bottom of the deep end and blow air rings. Good for hypoxic training. The lifeguards love it. DV

I am only in the water for about an hour for each workout so there is not much time for activities sans pace clock. Having said that, I quite enjoy swimming laps. Actually, more than the laps themselves I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I am able to complete a set that I was unable to finish a month before.
