I haven't thought this through so it is probably a hairbrained idea but...
Has anyone ever proposed a national Masters gathering that is not "championship oriented", e.g. where you aren't limited to three events if you can't make NQTs, perhaps with an associated open water event, and just more of an orientation toward gathering than high performance?

This is a pretty good idea. Besides swimming, there could be stroke clinics, nutrition clinics, dryland clinics, etc, etc.
Wow, how great would it be to have Ande, or Allen, or any of the great swimmers and coaches do stroke evaluations and tips and demonstrations!
Maybe have video taping... And then be able to go out for good food and :drink: without worrying whether you are affecting your big meet of the season!
And we could arrange for all those grudge matches, and have Leslie and Paul race with Leslie getting a head start...
I'm thinking that this would be a good PROMO for USMS, provided it didn't get too out of hand.
I was definitely picturing more of the fun aquatic events (beer relays, etc.) and dancing at night, beach BBQs etc. mixed in with perhaps a one a day workout.

What you don't know is that all of this proposed fun and debauchery annually occurs at the USMS Convention. Come on now, you didn't think all those fit and healthy people waste their days sitting and talking about rules do you? I'm sure 'business' is taken care of with a few rousing 'All in favour?' calls, then it's off to the naked relays...
This "story" is a great way to make sure each of the LMSCs send their full delegation to convention (at least for one year). We do have relays there but I can't really describe what they are since I would have to delete my own post;) So those that want to find out what goes one should contact their LMSC chairs and find out what it takes to become a delegate. Next year is a great year because it is 1) in California, 2) an election year therefore committees are reconstituted and you can get on one and 3) we can always use new blood!

We could talk to people like Speedo, Nike, TYR, and of course USA Swimming and USMS for sponsorship to pay for it.
While it'd be great for swimmers to get together and celebrate their love of the sport, there should be opportunities or a whole day, devoted to community education and just general getting the word out.....kinda like a health fair for swimming.
Definitely an FAF relay!!! :banana: Why don't we swim it with our new FAF t-shirts and forget about that fastskin pro of yours? We have a great medley: Fortress - back, Kathy - ***, FlyQueen - fly, and Beth -free. Good free relay too. I may have to re-check SS's superhero inanity poll to see if there are any more FAFs.
