This past Sunday on the CBC Network in Canada they showed the press conference after the World Championships were over. Thorpe seemed really ticked off about this and the timing of the story during the Championships. He said his reputation has been tarnished and he is contemplating legal action. He said he went to enjoy the swimming championships and since he was there the press have been bugging him about this just like they have been bugging him about things before he retired. He said he picks up newspapers and they are calling him Thorcheato instead of Thorpedo. I have provided a link to the press conference.

I'm curious,
can a person take testosterone and not "bulk up"? Mr Thorpe doesn't exactly fit the physical profile of someone "on the juice." Also, the article mentions medium and long distance races. Seems that the real benefit of extra testosterone would be realized in sprints, where you'd need more explosive power.
Of course if you read more recent information you find out that the substances where naturally occuring hormones, that ASADA had not closed the case, and that WADA has explained that Thorpe has not tested positive, only had a reading that warranted further investigation to determine the cause for the variation. Unfortunately in the world of the web the erroneous information has been republished several thousand times before the facts could come out.
The only problem uncovered so far is that the process proceeded so slowly and that someone so grossly violated the process by leaking incomplete and misleading information.
May 2006? Wasn't that right in the middle of his bout with his mysterious illness?
I don't believe he tried to cheat, but it was a strange year with him ultmately retiring at the end of it.

If these things can benefit a cyclist then I am sure they can benefit a swimmer.
It is rather upsetting that this inconclusive information gets leaked and takes a bite out of someones life. Just how long does it take to run these tests anyhow? Several years? Everytime these things come up it seems that the sample was taken years ago and they are just now finding potential banned substances.
Isn't L'Equipe the same trashy sports tabloid that has been going after Lance Armstrong and then improperly leaked all kinds of stuff about floyd landis last year? I think its a bunch of horseapple.

Yes, you can take testosterone and not get too bulky - it depends on the amount and the amount of training. It does work for endurance events by allowing speedier recovery, among other things.
I know a racewalker who was not bulky and took it as intramuscular injections and went on to win Olympic medals.

Why are the French so obsessed with doping accusations without proof! Why can't they just be satisfied with lambasting those who truly test positive(Floyd Landis as an example)?
It is to the point that when the French make an accusation, I don't even listen anymore. Too many times of crying wolf! Viva Lance Armstrong and Ian Thorpe! :applaud:

L'Equipe isn't a trash tabloid. the spinners in the US press & some sports federations have spun the paper to look realy bad to protect US atheletes.
It is probably one of the best reporting newspapers about cheating and drug use. The problem was tht it was a newspaper few read because the peole who were cheating or accused of cheating weren't always top atheletes with reputations ot control. This newspaper was reporting abut the use of drugs in weight lifting before anyone else.
The doping accusation involves:
Sports
Medicine
Politics
Popular culture
Ethics
The role of journalism
LogicThe USMS Forums seems pretty occupied with #1 and #4 in my humble opinion, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I wish Ian Thorpe a good life after swimming, and that he will make himself useful somehow.
